Race Day Information & Participant Instructions

Join us for the 13th Annual Standing Up to POTS 5K/2K and help make a difference in the lives of individuals living with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) and related disorders. Whether you choose to run, walk, volunteer, sponsor, or cheer from the sidelines, your participation supports vital research, patient education, and community outreach programs. This family-friendly event welcomes participants of all ages and abilities. We look forward to celebrating with you on race day!

Can't join us in person? You can still be part of the 13th Annual Standing Up to POTS 5K/2K by participating virtually! Virtual participants may complete their 5K or 2K from any location, at any time during race weekend, making it easy to support the POTS community no matter where you live. Run, walk, roll, or move at your own pace while helping raise awareness and funds for POTS research, education, and patient support programs. We encourage virtual participants to wear their event shirt, take photos, and share their experience on social media so we can celebrate your participation alongside our in-person attendees.

Registration is $30 for people 23 and older and $20 for people 22 and younger.

In-Person Event Information

  • Registration & Check-In: Begins at 10:00 a.m.
  • 5K Run & 2K Walk Start Time: 11:00 a.m.

Awards Ceremony: Immediately following the completion of the race.

Both the 5K and 2K will start and finish on Alumni Way in front of the Wittenberg University Student Center.

Parking

Free parking is available in Wittenberg's Student Center Parking Lot and the Krieg Hall Parking Lot, directly across from the Student Center.

Please follow event signage and volunteer directions upon arrival. Participants are encouraged to arrive by 10:15 a.m. to allow sufficient time for parking, registration, and pre-race activities.

Registration & Check-In

All participants should check in at the registration table located on Alumni Way in front of the Student Center.

At check-in, participants will receive:

  • Race bib
  • Event t-shirt, if pre-registered
  • Participant information

Please wear your race bib on the front of your shirt where it is clearly visible throughout the event.

Participants who have not yet registered may do so at the registration table beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Course Information

Wittenberg University has proudly hosted the Standing Up to POTS 5K/2K since its inception, providing participants with a scenic route through its beautiful campus.

The 5K course covers approximately 3.1 miles, while the 2K course covers approximately 1.2 miles and is designed to be accessible for participants of all ages and fitness levels.

For participant safety, please remain on designated sidewalks, pathways, and roadways and follow instructions from volunteers and race officials. The entire event will take place on the Wittenberg campus and will not require participants to cross any major streets.

Hydration & Participant Safety

Wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers are welcome during the event.

Participants are encouraged to:

  • Hydrate well before arriving at the event.
  • Bring a water bottle if desired.
  • Dress appropriately for weather conditions.
  • Use any medical accommodations necessary to safely participate.

Please note that water stations will not be available along the course but will be available at the finish line.

Individuals living with POTS and other chronic illnesses are encouraged to participate at their own pace and listen to their bodies throughout the event.

Liability Waiver

All participants must sign a liability waiver before participating in the 5K or 2K event. The waiver acknowledges the inherent risks associated with physical activity and confirms that participants understand and accept responsibility for their own health and safety during the event. Participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign the waiver on their behalf. To help ensure a smooth check-in process on race day, we encourage participants to complete the waiver in advance whenever possible.

Awards

Awards will be presented to the top finishers of the 5K event. No awards will be given for the 2K event.

Trophies will be presented immediately following the race and will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers of the 5K event.

Medals will be presented to the top three male and female finishers of the 5K in each age division:

  • 14 and Under
  • 15-19
  • 20-29
  • 30-39
  • 40-49
  • 50-59
  • 60 and over
  • Top 3 male and female POTS patients

Overall award winners will not also receive age-group awards.

Race Results

Official race results will be posted online through the Speedy Feet website immediately following the event.

Weather Policy

The event will be held rain or shine. Please dress accordingly. In the event of severe weather or other unsafe conditions, event organizers reserve the right to delay, modify, or cancel the event to ensure participant safety. Any schedule changes will be communicated through email and Standing Up to POTS social media channels.

Standing Up to POTS has created a tradition of gathering together with friends and family on Wittenberg University's beautiful campus in Springfield, Ohio for our annual 5K/2K. It is a great opportunity to meet other families living with POTS, exercise, and raise awareness about this disorder. All proceeds will fund POTS research to improve the quality of life for people living with POTS right now.
